Posted by Soulskill on Friday September 14, 12:41 P.M. Probably Joe writes "The long awaited Source engine remake of the Valve's original Half Life has finally been released. The initial release only includes the story up until Xen, but the developers say they'll be adding the rest of the story, along with an online multiplayer Deathmatch mode, soon. The game is available to download for free, and only requires players to install the Source SDK (included with all Source games, or a free download). The highly anticipated release has also caused a huge amount of traffic for any servers hosting the files, with GameFront, GameUpdates, and Black Mesa's own CDN brought down within minutes of the release. The project has also been approved by Steam's Greenlight program, and will hopefully be available through Steam soon, though no time frame has been given."

Black Mesa now available in Early Access on Steam By Matthew HumphriesThe wait continues, maybe forever, for Half-Life 3 to appear, but that doesn’t mean new content set within the Half-Life universe isn’t coming. In fact, you can play that new content right now if you don’t mind an incomplete game. That’s because Black Mesa has finally launched in Early Access form on Steam for $20. You may remember Black Mesa first saw a release back in 2012, but it was far from complete. However, work has continued and the development team has now decided to offer the latest version of what is still an in-development game to the Steam masses. So what exactly is Black Mesa? It’s a “re-envisioning of Valve Software’s seminal classic Half-Life” including greatly enhanced environments and more challenging and realistic gameplay. It’s a total remake. There’s over 10 hours of gameplay in the single-player campaign and both deathmatch and team deathmatch multiplayer modes promised. It uses the Source engine, but this is no port like the original Half-Life received, this is all new, pushing the engine to the limits, environments and graphics. There’s no confirmed release date for the finished game, but Early Access allows you to play an 85%-complete single-player campaign as well as being involved with feedback and helping improve the overall experience. You’re also getting a discount as the $20 price now will increase to $25 once the game is complete. If you’re wondering how this version differs from the free version of Black Mesa from 2012, basically that was a mod using the new engine at the time. Paying gets you a new game, the latest version including 2 further years of development, and all future work that will happen on the game, including a lot more content in the form of. Tempted?

Black Mesa Xen Open Beta Next Month Technical Beta We are excited to release our tech beta! It’s the first 3 maps of the Xen chapter (which has 6 maps total), continuing Gordon’s adventure from the cliffhanger ending of Lambda Core. With the full Xen campaign clocking in at 19 maps, the beta is only a taste of what’s to come. The purpose of this beta is to collect bugs and feedback on a range of different computers. We have made significant improvements and changes to the Source engine, and we want the game to run as smoothly as possible. If you want to be on the bleeding edge of testing, opt into this beta. If you want the polished, complete Xen experience, you should wait. It won’t be long! Players are encouraged to report bugs on the Steam forum or the game's Discord. To take part in the beta, find Black Mesa in your Steam library (you'll need to own it, and if you don't it's currently on sale) and right-click on it. Select Properties from the drop-down menu, then choose the beta tab. Opt-in to the public beta and close the menu. You'll see Black Mesa updating to provide you with the Xen chapters. When you launch the game, you can select New Game and choose chapter 15 to start playing the Xen beta. steamcommunity.com/games/362890/announcements/detail/1613893608676653038
